Who are we?
We are Rederij Lampedusa. 5 years ago we brought boats left behind by refugees from the Italian island of Lampedusa to Amsterdam. The shipping company is run by a great team with roots in Syria, Somalia, Eritrea, Egypt, Turkey, Iran and the Netherlands.
We offer guided tours on our boats and tell stories about migration in the city of Amsterdam.
That is why we are looking for people with a migration background.
Who are we looking for?
If you feel like joining us, as a captain, as a tour guide, or if you have technical skills – then you’ve come to the right place.
We are looking for:
– 8 tour guides / captains
– 2 persons for our technical staff
What skills do you need?
Not many: your English should be adequate and understandable. You can learn the rest with us.
What do you learn from us?
- To swim. (If you can’t yet.)
- To steer a boat. We offer you complete training to become a captain. With this professional training you can work with us (but also with another tour boat company).
- To speak. Of course, you can already. But with us you will learn more. You will receive training as a professional storyteller. With this you will learn to be a tour guide. You can work as a tour guide for us (but also for another tour company).
- Technical education. If you have some technical knowledge and you don’t feel like working as a tour guide, then you can become part of our technical team. You will learn how our boats work and get to know a modern electric motor.
What do we offer?
You’ll get a full professional training. You can stay as a member of our team, or use your new profession to find a job elsewhere. And that training is offered for free. We can even offer you a small payment during your training. After your training, you can find work with us and of course you will be paid in full. We are not able to offer you a fulltime salary, but it will be enough for a good base income.
When does this training take place?
We start with the first training rounds in the end of the winter when it’s getting a little warmer. In spring a multi-day course as a storyteller / tour guide takes place, next to the training to become a captain.
So you can start working during the season of 2022.
